Hi year 4

To access a bank of online e-books which can be read on laptops, tablets and smartphones, you can register for ‘Oxford Owl At Home’ using this link:

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Then click on ‘Level’:

Then click on ‘Book Band’:*

*If your child has forgotten their colour book band, this should be written in their homework diary or you could just select a book that your child is interested in.

When you then click on a book for the first time it will ask you to log in.  You can create a parent login for free and then access as many books as you like.

Let us know via 2Email or the blog if you try any of these books.

Happy Reading!

New Email Announcement!

Hi year 4,

We’ve got some really exciting news about another way we can all keep in touch. Purple Mash 2Email! This is a great communication system where we can email you, you can email us AND you can email each other. To access 2Email simply click on ‘computing – 2Email – 2Email.

We have sent you all an email this morning so be sure to go and have a read, we are eagerly awaiting your replies.

This week we would like you all to complete a persuasive writing task by writing a letter to the Prime Minister to convince him to take action about something you feel is important. Maybe this could be about something you’ve seen in the news recently or linked to our school or a club you go to.  Firstly, you should look at the files attached and remind yourself of the features of a persuasive letter. Next, plan your letter. It should include points from the checklist attached (Challenge – can you set your own success criteria?). Finally, write your persuasive letter. Good luck!

We would absolutely love to see your finished work so here are a few options of how you could show us. Ask an adult to take a picture of your letter and email it to us via your 2Email account, type up your letter and email it to us, keep your letter safe and show us when we get back to school.

One last thing, last week we mentioned the new Government website learning resource, Oak academy. This week the English activities are based around J.K Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts, some of the lessons are challenging but you might enjoy them so have a look and let us know what you think. Maths is based around area and perimeter and the first tasks are tricky but if you persevere you should enjoy the unit.

Have a great week everyone!

Mrs Bilclough and Mrs Richardson

Note for parents and carers.

It has been widely agreed that the Oak Academy resources are very challenging for children to access independently. Please feel free to look at units of work in lower year groups. Last week the year 2 English unit was based on a story which is always studied in year 4.

New learning resources

You may have already seen that the Government has launched the Oak National Academy to provide online lessons for children whilst schools are closed. The resource provides video lessons and activities for each year group in maths, English and a range of foundation subjects.

We have looked at the lessons today for year 4, if you would like to, we recommend you try the maths (area and perimeter) and English (poetry comprehension) lessons. The website is very easy to navigate just ensure you are working in the year 4 section.

We haven’t suggested that you access all of the subjects as you already have your  grid activities and online resources provided by school. If you have any questions about any of your at home learning please do get in touch.

The link below will take you to the website

Year 4 – Addition home learning activities

Hi Year 4,

We hope you are all keeping well and have enjoyed some Easter sunshine with your families.

Below is a link that will take you to a new learning grid  which is full of activities to keep you busy whilst school is closed. Don’t forget to regularly access Purple Mash where we will set new learning activities and you can keep up to date with class news via the blog.

You can also keep working on your times tables using your Rock Stars login details and for those of you with Lexia accounts you can access that from home too.

We really look forward to hearing from you all via the Purple Mash blog. If there is anything we can do to help with home learning or login details please do get in touch with the school office via email and they will forward your messages to us.

Take care

Mrs Bilclough & Mrs Richardson

Keeping in touch in Year 4!

Hi Year 4,

We hope you are all well and managing to keep busy. This week saw the launch of our very own Purple Mash class blog where we have been able to catch up with you all and we have absolutely loved it! Being able to read about what you’ve been up to whilst school is closed  is a real treat for us, so thank you to everyone who has been in touch.

As always, please don’t worry if you haven’t had time to access Purple Mash but maybe try and log in and check out the blog. That way you can let the office know if you are experiencing any problems and we’ll try our best to solve them for you.  To access the Blog page sign in to Purple Mash as normal, click on sharing – shared blogs – year 4 blog.

This week we recommended a great maths game which you can access by typing daily10topmarks into your search engine. There is more information on the Blog page but do give it a try – its great fun and quite similar to our DMM.

We hope you are enjoying the grid tasks which we sent home when school closed, we’d love to hear how you are getting on with those. It was lovely to hear this week that Jack is recovering well and getting started with his River’s project.

Finally, we really hope you are all enjoying the reading books you took home. Don’t forget you can read books from home too! Over the next week or so we will be asking you to share reading reviews and recommendations with each other. This is something Mrs Richardson and I like to do for each other! I’ve recently finished a brilliant book which Mrs Richardson recommended and I’m just about to send her a text message about a book I’m really enjoying that I think she’ll love.

Please stay safe

Mrs Bilclough and Mrs Richardson
